Common PFAS Contaminants

Have you heard of PFAS?

countertop water filtration system

Forever chemicals, also called PFAS (poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances), are chemicals found in everyday items, such as makeup, cookware, clothing, and industrial materials.

The PFAS class is made of over 9,000 chemicals! Here are some of the common chemicals:

PFOA – Perfluorooctanoic acid. PFOA is the most common type of PFAS. It’s used in carpeting, clothing, sealants, and more.

PFOS – Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid. PFOS was a key ingredient in fabric protectors and is used for its stain-repellant properties.

PFOA and PFOS aren’t allowed in US products anymore, but imported goods still use them.

PFBS – Perfluorobutanesulfonic acid. PFBS is a short chain PFAS, meaning it breaks down easier than traditional PFAS. It’s used as a replacement for PFOS.

PFBA – Perfluorobutanoic acid. PFBA is used in advanced chemistry.

PFNA – Perfluorononanoic acid. PFNA is used to decrease surface tension between two types of matter and can be found in plastics.

ProOne water filters are tested for these PFAS class contaminants and can help reduce them! Learn how well PFAS can be removed on our website!

Are you drinking unfiltered water?

Do you want to remove persistent contaminants?

Did you know that some contaminants take decades to break down?

Forever chemicals, also called PFAS (poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances), are chemicals found in everyday items, such as makeup, cookware, clothing, and industrial materials. They can enter the water system, food chain, plants, air, and can be found inside our bodies. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), PFAS can be commonly found in our blood! PFAS are so dangerous because they don’t break down easily and are constantly accruing in the environment.

Learn about the different types of PFAS on our website!

How Do Pressure Water Filter Systems Compare to Reverse Osmosis?

Do you want to improve the quality of your home’s water?

A person filling up a green glass with water from a sink | Countertop reverse osmosis system

How do reverse osmosis systems compare to ProOne’s pressure systems?

Reverse osmosis systems require a pre-sediment filter to remove larger particles. These filters can easily get gunked up your R.O. system periodically needs to be disinfected. Rather than spend time cramped under your sink fiddling with the filter, you could enjoy the ease of ProOne systems! The ProOne/Coldstream Countertop Water Filter comes with pre-sediment filter installed, is cleanable/reusable, and doesn’t require disinfection. You’re expected to get up to 2600 gallons of clean water per filter!

Minerals give water its great taste. Reverse osmosis systems often filter out even these healthy minerals, giving the water a flat taste. ProOne pressure systems leave small amounts of the good minerals like potassium, sodium, and calcium so you can feel refreshed with every sip!

The Benefit of ProOne Pressure Systems

Is clean, fresh water important to you and your family?

How do reverse osmosis systems compare to ProOne’s pressure systems?

Reverse osmosis systems often waste more water than they treat! For every gallon of water treated, a reverse osmosis system can waste up to half a gallon. It’s your water – use it exactly the way you want! ProOne pressure systems not only don’t waste water, they are very economical. When using the ProOne/Coldstream Countertop Water Filter, the estimated cost per gallon used is $0.03. That’s a small price to pay for cold, crisp water!

Most reverse osmosis systems require electricity. ProOne systems use the natural pressure of your water to filter with no electricity required.

Are You Concerned About Hexavalent Chromium in Your Water?

Huron river | Home water filtration system
Because hexavalent chromium is odorless and tasteless, there’s no way to tell if it’s in a water source other than testing the water. You can minimize potential exposure by only drinking from filtered water sources.

Learn about the recent spill in Michigan.

ProOne water filters have been tested and certified by independent labs to meet NSF/ANSI standards for drinking water by removing fluoride, heavy metals, pesticides, and more.

ProMax Countertop, ProHome, FS10, and ProOne G2.0 systems and filters have been tested and cleared to help reduce as much as 99.9% of hexavalent chromium in drinking water. See our lab reports!

Could Michigan Water be Contaminated with Hexavalent Chromium?

A glass of water | Home water filtration system Michigan
In the last several years, we’ve heard of hexavalent chromium in two high-profile news stories in Michigan. There was a leak on I-696 in 2019, and in August 2022, water from a sewage treatment facility in Wixom accidentally released hexavalent chromium into the Huron River system.

Hexavalent chromium is undetectable without lab testing, but you can reduce possible exposure with a home water filtration system from ProOne.

Benefits to Drinking Filtered Water

Why should you choose filtered water over bottled?

You know where it comes from – When you use your home’s own water, you know the source. Whether you use a well or city system, you can test your water for contaminants and get a clear and relatively consistent understanding of the makeup of your water.

Water bottles lined up | Countertop water filter

Convenient – It’s easier to grab a glass of water from home than to drive to the store for bottled water!

Remove contaminants – No water is 100% free from contaminants, but ProOne water filters do a great job at removing over 220 contaminants! See independent lab reports for each of our filters!

Save money – Using your own water rather buying water bottles can save you a considerable amount of money each year.

Save environment – The majority of plastic water bottles are 100% recyclable, but often end up in landfills. By drinking filtered water instead of bottled, you can reduce plastic waste.
