According to an article from CBS, “studies that show half of the country’s tap water could be contaminated with potentially toxic compounds” like PFAS. Michigan’s Problem with PFAS

How serious is Michigan’s problem with PFAS?

PFAS contamination has decreased in Michigan since its height in 2018, but the PFAS that were introduced are likely still around considering PFAS are known as forever chemicals – it takes a very long time for them to be removed from the ecosystem.

There are currently 245 sites in Michigan where PFAS have been detected. “According to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) more than 1.5 million residents have been drinking water contaminated with PFAS and there could be as many as 11,300 potential sites where PFAS may have been used.” This is why the EPA gave Michigan $37 million in February 2023 to address PFAS in drinking water.
