Want to Reduce PFAS in Your Water?

A survey by the Environmental Working Group tested the top water filter pitchers and gravity systems to see how well they could reduce PFAS. The top three filters reduced PFAS to non-detectable levels and the fourth filter removed 98% of PFAS.

ProOne Water Filters can also help reduce a high percentage of PFAS class chemicals!

The ProOne G2.0 gravity filters, which are used in both the water filter pitcher and gravity systems like the Big+ and Traveler+, removes 95.92 – 97.96% of PFOA and 98.96% of PFOS, the most common chemicals in the PFAS class. The ProOne Water Filter Pitcher also has a unique design that has the filter sit outside of the water, preventing any cross-contamination.

ProOne stainless-steel gravity systems are completely NSF certified, including the ProOne G2.0 filter and stainless-steel gravity housing. The filters are cleanable, reusable, and have a filter life of 6 months. Replacement filters cost $41.95 – $83.95 depending on the size and can be purchased in bulk for a discount.

Are You Overlooking PFAS?

Have you tested your tap water for contaminants?

A woman holding a glass of water | PFAS water filter

Are you concerned about PFAS?

According to an article from CBS, “studies that show half of the country’s tap water could be contaminated with potentially toxic compounds” like PFAS. States with multiple sites of PFAS contamination include Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Colorado, and California.

Poly and perfluoroalkyl substances, commonly called PFAS, are a class of chemicals that can be found in everyday items, like makeup, clothing, and non-stick cookware. They’re often referred to as “forever chemicals,” because it takes them decades to break down. These substances can enter the water, air, earth, and can be found in animals and humans!

“We know drinking water is one of the most common sources of PFAS exposure” said Sydney Evans at Environmental Working Group, who conducted a survey on water filter PFAS reduction. The survey tested water filter pitchers and gravity systems. The top three filters reduced PFAS to non-detectable levels and the fourth filter removed 98% of PFAS.

Water Filter System Maintenance

Does your filtered water have a bad taste or smell?

A comparison of a dirty and clean filter | Countertop water filter

Replacing your filters and performing regular maintenance on your water filter system is important to keep it working properly. A clean system will filter out contaminants more efficiently, keeping your water clean while removing any bad taste and smell.

Assess your water filter system once a month. You should look for:

  • Proper installation – Water filters can perform poorly if not installed correctly. Each ProOne product has specific installation instructions.
  • Leaks – For missing or broken parts, email support@prooneusa.com.

Michigan’s Problem with PFAS

How serious is Michigan’s problem with PFAS?

A running sink | PFAS water filter Michigan

PFAS contamination has decreased in Michigan since its height in 2018, but the PFAS that were introduced are likely still around considering PFAS are known as forever chemicals – it takes a very long time for them to be removed from the ecosystem.

There are currently 245 sites in Michigan where PFAS have been detected. “According to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) more than 1.5 million residents have been drinking water contaminated with PFAS and there could be as many as 11,300 potential sites where PFAS may have been used.” This is why the EPA gave Michigan $37 million in February 2023 to address PFAS in drinking water.

Michigan’s History with PFAS

Are you a Michigander?

A Michigan dam | PFAS water filter Michigan

Are you worried about per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in your water?

You’ve likely heard of PFAS and were told to avoid the foam that accumulates around the shore and in the dams of rivers, but how serious is Michigan’s problem with PFAS?

The Detroit Free Press calls PFAS contamination “Michigan’s biggest environmental crisis in 40 years.” PFAS are a class of chemicals used in the manufacturing of some fabrics, cleaning products, cookware, and more. PFAS are so widespread in the environment that they can be found in the water, air, and even the blood of humans and animals. Here’s a history of PFAS contamination and news in Michigan:

2009 – Wolverine Worldwide dumped PFAS contaminated wastewater into the Rogue River.

2016 – PFAS was found in Ann Arbor drinking water.

2017 – Michigan created the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team.

2018 – It was discovered that a Wixom-based manufacturing plant had been discharging PFAS contaminated water, which eventually entered the Huron River. A “do not eat” fish advisory was implemented.

How to Cut Down on Water Related Costs

Are you trying to conserve water?

A shower head | House water filter

There are small steps you can take to reduce the amount of water you use and save money! Here are some activities you can do in the shower to conserve water:

Take Shorter Showers: By reducing your shower time by just 4 minutes, you can save around 4,000 gallons a year!

Use an Efficient Shower Head: A modern shower head will run at a rate of 2.5 Gallons Per Minute (GPM), meaning you’ll use 25 gallons for a 10-minute shower. Older shower heads may have an even higher GPM, which wastes water. ProOne Water Filter shower head filters run at 2 GPM, saving you at least 5 gallons for a 10-minute shower, which adds up over time! Shop our shower head filters

Invest in a House Water Filter

To remove contaminants, combat hard water, and improve your water’s taste and smell, a whole house water filter is a great investment!
